Explore
Run targeted segment explorations that compare traffic slices and surface cross-segment patterns.
Explore lets you analyze different traffic segments side by side — for example, mobile vs. desktop, new vs. returning visitors, or organic vs. paid traffic — and find patterns that only emerge from the comparison.

Click the New exploration button at the top of the page, then:
- Give it a title — describe what you're investigating (e.g. "Mobile vs. desktop checkout friction").
- Add segments — pick a dimension (device, new vs. returning visitors, marketing channel, or one of your GA4 audiences) and choose which values to compare.
- Click Create to kick it off.
If you've connected Google Analytics, the GA4 audiences dimension lets you compare the audiences you've already defined in your GA4 property, without rebuilding them in Spar.
Spar analyzes each segment independently, then runs a cross-segment comparison to identify patterns that affect the whole store versus issues unique to one segment.
What you get back
Once the exploration finishes:
- Per-segment cards — each segment shows its own findings, evidence, and suggested hypotheses.
- Cross-segment comparison — a chart and summary highlighting where segments diverge and where they share the same problems.
- Opportunities — draft opportunities are created from the strongest findings, ready for you to review and approve.

Draft opportunities created by an exploration are not added to your main Opportunities list until you approve them. You can approve individually or use Approve all to move them in bulk.
When to use Explore
- You suspect mobile and desktop have very different conversion bottlenecks.
- You want to compare new vs. returning visitor behavior before writing a hypothesis.
- You're looking for segment-specific issues that a whole-site audit might average out.
